What is Self-Determination?

The Self-Determination Program is an alternative to the traditional way of receiving regional center services.

In Self-Determination, clients of the Regional Center have more control over selecting the services and supports they need.

There are many families involved in regional centers who do not have adequate services and who have not had their needs met. Your regional center contracts with local vendors that can provide respite, social skills, adaptive skills and more. However, those vendors can have wait lists, restrictions, or other limitations that make it difficult for individuals to access the services they need.

Through the Self-Determination program, you will be able to decide how the funds in your certified budget should be spent in a way that fits your needs and have a wider array of choices from different providers who aren’t or don’t want to be vendored with regional centers.

What we offer

PCP- PERSON cENTERED PLANNING

Person Centered Planning centers your ideas to build the life you prefer. Unlike outdated program models that focus on a client’s deficits, the person-centered planning approach helps you decide what programs and services are necessary for you to create a life you enjoy. I can help you develop a person centered plan so that you can transition to the Self Determination program smoothly.

1:1 consultations and interviews

During our person centered pre-planning interviews and meetings, (can be in person, via Zoom or calls) we look at the client’s hopes and dreams, what they need, what they want and develop ideas to achieve this.

tHE pERSON cENTERED plAN report

I compile ideas and information learned in the pre-planning and person-centered meeting and create a written document that discusses the client’s wants for their life, how they want to spend their time, who they want to spend their time with and hopes for the future. The document will describe supports needed to achieve these goals and outline the action plan to reach those goals.

Regional Center IPP Meeting

I accompany you to present your Person-Centered Plan at the meeting with your regional center, review the 12 month spending history and discuss potential new/unmet needs that should be addressed in the budget until it is certified.
